Discussion Area Etiquette

Your First Post

If you're appearing in Gloomveil for the first time, your arrival will be more noticeable and memorable if you start an introductory discussion thread. In your first post, you should describe as much of your character as you can - at the very least what you look like. Other details such as what you're wearing, what you might be thinking, etc. are optional but add to everyone's enjoyment.

"Rules-Playing"

There are no such things as "class", "level", "alignment" and "hit points" in Gloomveil, because we don't follow any game rules system. All in-character discussions, therefore, should be void of ugly rules-system-speak.

Hijacking other characters is not allowed.

Posting what your character does is acceptible- posting how other characters react to your action is poor conduct. The only acceptible use of hijacking is assuming that the barkeep and barmaid will serve you whatever you like (within reason).

"Forcing" actions.

Please don't put people into a situation they only have one way out of.  An example of this would be threatening physical violence against another character, giving an ultimatum, etc. Dramatic actions are permitted, just please be careful not to force someone else to have to react.

Avoid putting yourself at the mercy of other players.

If I had a dollar for every wounded character that stumbled into the bar, I'd be a rich man. If you're going to play the dying victim, please have a backup plan in case you are ignored. Stumbling into the bar dying either forces other characters to have to attend to you, or causes a possibly unwelcome disturbance to existing conversations.

Violence (and other serious action) is not allowed.

Please don't describe violent actions against other characters unless you've gotten permission from them. If the Discussion Area administrators ever get a complaint from the "victim", we'll simply delete your offending post. If you continue your behaviour, we will ban you.

Spellcasting is limited.

Using spells and/or spell-like effects that affect anything but yourself and/or your personal possessions is not allowed without the willing participation of the "victim." Please avoid casting flashy, "impressive", or otherwise attention-getting spells. It can be considered showing off, which leads me to the next point...

"Showing Off" is not recommended.

While everyone would like to be the Ultra-Dark-Lord-of-Ultimate-Darkness, or the 50th-level Archmage, or the High Uber-Priestess of the entire Southern Realm, not everyone should. Sometimes it is far more interesting to play an aspiring hero than a superhero. So, if you must play the ultimate ass-kicker, please tone it down. Any high-level character who flaunts their "power" will be remediated.
