Geoffrey MacDougall wrote in to inform me that Rise & Ruin, a 3D browser-based virtual card game of fantasy combat, is in closed beta testing. A co-production of two independent Canadian developers, Veil Entertainment and Spore Productions, Rise & Ruin's web site is already in full effect, and includes some impressive screenshots of 1-on-1 battles. Looks promising!

On a more mainstream note, published an interview with Canadian game producer Adrian Crook, who works for Relic Entertainment in Vancouver: "Adrian shares his insight on the production of The Outfit for the Xbox 360, describes a 'typical' day for game producer and gives tips that every game producer out there ought to know." Crook was named 2006 Producer of the Year by the Canadian New Media Awards, and has commented here at Clickable Culture on occasion.

In the Toronto area, another game competition has opened to the public. Dubbed "Vortex," the competition aims to coach budding developers and entrepreneurs on the basics of producing and pitching a viable prototype. Seminars and workshops will be held over the next few months, culminating in a round of pitch sessions and finally a winner in the categories of console, mobile, PC, or web.
