  Famed Virtual-World Journalist Retires
Posted 2006-02-16 by Tony Walsh
Peter Ludlow, better known in the virtual world of Second Life as Urizenus Sklar, is stepping down from his long-standing post as publisher and editor-in-chief of The Second Life Herald to pursue academic and other real-life activities. Formerly dubbed The Alphaville Herald, the online tabloid earned Ludlow infamy in exposing the seedy underbelly of The Sims Online (TSO). The real-world media, such as Time and CNN, took notice after Ludlow was exiled from TSO for his reporting. Ludlow's exploits have been documented in an upcoming book he co-authored with the Herald's editorial director Walker Spaight (a.k.a. Mark Wallace).

I will miss Ludlow's presence in the virtual world. Not only was his reportage deliciously honest and spicy, but his unique insights into online culture spurred on my interest in covering virtual-world societies. The capable and steadfast Mark Wallace will take over at the helm of the Herald, and I wish both he and Ludlow great success in their future pursuits.
