  Microsoft Quietly Creeps Into ‘Second Life’

Microsoft has stealthily moved in to the virtual world of Second Life through its technology-evangelism community "10." Media-maker and 10 contributor Eric Rice helped build a small island for Microsoft, which includes a conference room, towering tree-houses, an observatory, and giant iron fist off the coast (I guess that's a reminder of who paid for the venture). 10's logo can be seen dotting the landscape, a wide-screen TV in a tree hut has two channels--Xbox and Xbox360--and a prominent 3D logo for 10's big sister "9" (pic, URL) is sunk into the beach.

I toured the deserted island with 3pointD.com's Mark Wallace, and we agreed that it seems like the kind of place you'd bring a Microsoft employee on a field-trip to a virtual world--the architecture was subdued and uncluttered, and there were plenty of brand-appropriate screens to be found. Remarkably, not one was blue.
