Wells Fargo Sinks ‘Second Life’ Island

reBang brings word that Wells Fargo has uprooted an official advergaming project from the virtual world of Second Life in favour of planting it in competing online environment Active Worlds. Well Fargo's "Stagecoach Island," which launched last September as an effort to teach youth how to manage money, was hit early on by bugs and security problems. I wonder (as does csven of reBang) if this wasn't one major reason for Wells Fargo's departure.

The Second Life community is at this time somewhat startled by the move, as some consider the new home of Stagecoach Island to be to technologically lacking. Last year, a group of Second Life users was contracted to build Stagecoach Island, but was not involved directly in the Active Worlds version. Instead, the group's textures were evidently used by another developer in building the new Stagecoach Island. Additionally, reBang claims that the Active Worlds version of Stagecoach Island contains "items not created for or licensed to Wells Fargo." A seriously sticky situation, indeed.
